Plant Neighbor Field Drawings: Connecting with Place
This project is all about getting to know my botanical neighbors, another layer of getting to know my homeplace. I incorporate this practice into my daily life is by including observational drawing in my morning walks around Eagle Rock Lake in Questa, New Mexico as well as other outings. A big part of this process is slowing down, taking time to notice, opening my eyes, other senses, brain, and heart to my botanical neighbors. After drawing the plant in situ, I learn about it from various sources online, books and my word of mouth from family, friends and colleagues. From this light touch exploration a larger plant exploration project is emerging along with ideas for collaboration and ways to share this with others. I’m excited to continue this practice and see where it leads!
