Re-inhabiting Conservation Exhibition, May 22 - July 26

May 5, 2026 Claire Cote

I am pleased to announce that “Map of Becoming” was selected to be part of Creature Conserve’s upcoming juried exhibition, Re-Inhabiting Conservation: Using Art to Bring Wildlife Conservation Closer to Home, on view May 22 - July 26, opening reception June 14, 2026.

The exhibition reconsiders the role of artists in wildlife conservation and explores the possibilities of art informed by science; it features work by 38 visual artists and 13 writers from 11 countries, and is produced in collaboration with GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in Reading, Pennsylvania, USA.

In the context of this exhibition, “re-inhabiting” (a term borrowed from the Bioregionalism movement of the 1930s) is a call to restore wildlife to native habitats and rethink our relationship to geographic boundaries. It is also a call to rethink boundaries between art and science. It presents an invitation to step out of siloed roles and step up to conservation action. Collectively, the exhibition celebrates cultural diversity as a reflection of biodiversity, presents a shared language for communicating traditional ecological knowledge and scientific research, and brings wildlife conservation closer to home.

I am honored to be among the selected artists in this exhibition; I am truly in good company! I am also deeply inspired by Creature Conserve’s mission and rigorous, inclusive programming.

Creature Conserve brings together artists, scientists, writers and other creatives in a supportive, welcoming space to learn about threats to wildlife, share empathy for animals, exchange ideas, and find opportunities for growth at the intersection of art, science and wildlife conservation.

Hints of fall are in the air, summer is winding down. Plants are thick with growth from the incredible rainfall we've received. A hike down to the Rio Grande is one of our favorite ways to celebrate any season.

My dad shared this piece of wisdom with me at a time when I really needed to hear it. Now it's in my kitchen reminding me to "Honor the rests."

Rest is directly linked to rejuvenation and resilience. My intention is to "honor the rest
Late summer in Sunshine Valley, view to the North down our driveway this morning. Cloud hat on Ute Mountain means more rain coming today. We are so grateful for these wonderful rains after such intense drought, but now many are experiencing flooding.
